The winter pattern in Sabine Lake is shaping up nicely on the days in between the fronts the water is clearing nicely. The north end is still producing a good trout and redfish bite. Flounder are showing in better numbers towards the south. On the days when the north wind wont let us fish Sabine Lake we are fishing west cove in Calcasieu Lake as well as Turners bay area with limits of trout coming easily. Wade fishing is getting better and better as water temps continue to drop. If catching trophy trout is your thing wading is the way to do it. As far as lures go I cant say enough good things about D.O.A. lures, in terms of durability and catching fish they cant be beat. I highly recommend going to their website for the full offering of what they bring to the table. My lures of choice are the CAL series shad tail and jerk baits in pearl chartreuse or tx croaker on 1/4 oz. led heads for trout and redfish. When targeting flounder we use the same plastic but go to a heavier 3/8 oz. lead head as well as tipping with a bit of filleted croaker or dead shrimp. When I am wading and in search of gator trout the PT-7 top water lure and the bait buster come into play. Also the great people from Okuma have impressed us again we asked for a premium spinning setup and they delivered with the SRT inshore elite series. Ours were sent in the 7′ 6″ medium fast, they are light as a feather and will throw a mile when you need that of them.
