As of the writing of this March 2021 Sabine Lake fishing Report, we are just coming out of the spring equinox. Several days of incoming tides and heavy southeasterly winds have driven lots of saltwater into Lake Sabinex bay systems. As long as we don’t get a lot of rain, I feel like we will be rewarded with possibly one of the best fishing seasons we have seen since Hurricane Harvey came to town.

On post frontal days with southeast winds, we are already experiencing a great trout bite on the east side of Sabine Lake. We are focusing our efforts on marsh drains with clean water. On days that we are getting fronts or brutal southeast winds we are tucking up into the marsh and having great catches of redfish, flounder and sheepshead.  Our clients are going home very happy with nice catches of fish.

I really appreciate our customers that hung with us through those rough days. Also, worth noting, the mid-day minor feed times seemed to be far superior to the earlier majors.

As for lure selection on the prettier days with clean enough water, we were catching our trout on D.O.A. CAL 3.5″ paddle tails in red shad and TX croakers. Larger speckled trout were tricked into biting D.O.A. bait busters in mullet color. Paul Brown Fat Boys by MirrOlure in pearl chartreuse and pink chartreuse also caught their fair share.

On the days that the wind was up and the water was dirty, we fished live shrimp under a popping cork and put a smile on a lot of anglers’ faces as they caught lots of redfish in less than favorable conditions.

That about does it for the Sabine Lake March 2021 fishing report.  We are looking forward to some great fishing in April and May.  Let us know if you would like to get on the calendar.
